Our material based on ASSURE model and use of corpus
Greetings my fellow readers. Today, I will be mentioning a groupwork I have done along with Yavuz Selim Özdemir and Güneş Kesen for our lesson, Current Issues in Teaching. For the topic of this blog, our instructor has assigned us a task, in which we were supposed to prepare a lesson plan and a set of activities that includes the use of a corpus based on the ASSURE model, which we learned in the prior lessons. For this task, we were also assigned to use a unit from the prep. school English Student Book. We have chosen the Unit 18, Digital Era for our lesson plan and activity design. We have decided to base our material upon the use of connectors, allowing students to explore these connectors through corpus and the activites we have prepared. These activities that we have prepared include self-preparing of a few sentences through corpus, which improves learner autonomy, use of connectors in different parts of sentences, which provides the contemplation of context and placement of connectors in proper parts, gap-filling, and even a simple tutorial to use of a corpora. The possible problems that could occur in a classroom setting while using our material is the use of corpora, considering the affordances and access to use of technological devices required to use a corpora to complete our material. Also, the students might be deprived of the prior knowledge for the use of connectors in the activities prepared, though, these gaps can be covered in the activities prepared for peer-work.
