Creating an AR/VR integrated teaching material
AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) are immersive technologies that enhance language learning by creating engaging, interactive experiences. AR presents digital demonstrations onto the real world, such as 3D objects or animations, while VR places learners in fully virtual environments. In language classes, AR can make vocabulary and grammar lessons more engaging by integrating visual and interactive activities, while VR allows learners to practice real life conversations in virtual environments, such as cafes or marketplaces. These technologies increase motivation, retention, and language skills. However, they also have challenges, including high costs for tools like VR headsets and the AR. Also, teachers may require specialized training to integrate these tools into their classroom practice, and some students might feel overwhelmed by the immersive nature of VR. Despite these constraints, AR and VR have great potential to prevail traditional language classrooms when implemented and provided properly. Now, let me tell you about the material I have prepared with my friends Başak and Pınar. We have chosen the 2nd option for our assignment, exploring a global issue. Our main concern was Sea Pollution. We have used Canva as our main source to prepare our material. Here is our material. We have provided our learners with authentic pictures of visuals using AI to create pictures. We also used QR codes to provide them access to certain videos that correspond to our cause. Some of these videos include the use of VR, providing the viewers with 360° display opportunities to explore the videos. One of our setbacks during the preparation of the material was about these videos, finding VR compatible videos related to our topic. I personally dont anticipate any widespread use VR or AR technology in our nation, though it would probably make learning a lot more prolific and engaging than it already is.
